I had read promising reviews of the Whitcomb Hotel on the skoosh reservation website, and booked 2 nights in San Fran. When I told friends in SF where I was staying, they warned that the hotel had recently had bed bug infestations. I searched independent sites and found this to be the case. I question whether or not Whitcomb has been posting positive feedback on reservation websites in order to cover up the poor reviews that would alert potential customers of the bed bug issue.

I recommend steering clear of this hotel. It's not worth the hassle (let alone the risk of getting bed bugs).

This hotel has kind of nice antique foyer but when you walk toward the rooms it is very bad smell of mold. Everything is very old, bathroom, furniture (tv) but on the bad way, not the nice antique way. Not the best area either. Nice friendly stuff.
Fitness is just falling a part. This hotel does not deserve more then 2 stars, and for 2 stars is expensive.

This is my second stay at Hotel Whitcomb and I would recommend it to anyone who is a budget traveler and wants to be in a convenient location. The hotel has a BART station right outside its doors and is about a twenty minute ride away from SFO. Along with the BART, there is a bus stop and trolly stop. This makes getting to other neighbhorhoods in San Francisco a breeze. The hotel and the ammenities are clean. The staff is friendly and competant. While parts of Market Street and Civic Center are a little sketchy, I never felt unsafe around the hotel. For the price and the convenience, Hotel Whitcomb is a good deal.

Rooms are small, but great as long as you don't plan on spending your vacation in the hotel room. Location is great with a BART station, street car and bus pickup right in front. A lot of homeless people in the area and all the weirdos of San Francisco surround the area. Really nice hotel though especially for the price, highly recommended for a short stay in San Francisco.
