Hotel Condestable is situated in the centre of Barcelona, within walking distance of Plaça Catalunya and Passeig de Gràcia, a long avenue featuring two renowned buildings of Gaudi: Casa Batlló and La Pedrera.
The hotel is a good starting point to visit Barcelona, offering quick and easy access to the rest of the city by public transportation. Several shops and entertainment venues are available within the vicinity.
The property boasts welcoming interiors, including a cafeteria and a lounge. Wi-Fi Internet connection is available throughout the property. Pets are admitted. All rooms feature a private marble bathroom with hair dryer, shower or bathtub and are equipped with heating and individually controlled air conditioning, mini safe, satellite TV and direct dial phone with Internet access. Wi-Fi connection is available as well.
For what I was charged a night--$135 or so--I wasn't expecting a 4 star hotel, but I was expecting more than I got. While the hotel was located a few blocks from the Ramblus and right near a Metro station (Universitat), these were its only redeeming features. For starters, the hotel was under construction--it was noisy and there was scaffolding (and men) outside my window. The room was about as basic and bare as you could get--and not all that clean. The staff was unhelpful and unethusiastic when I asked them about the sights to see. My advice: Spend a few dollars more and stay somewhere nicer. Even if you're out sightseeing all day, you still want a nice, comfortable place to go back to and unwind in the evening.

The Condestable Hotel was awful-- I certainly do not recommend it. It was noisy, not well kept up, not terribly clean. The best I can say is that the location was excellent. I could not sleep as the rooms had recently been rennovated and they used poor insulation or no insulation material. Phones did not work. When my next door neighbor spoke on his mobile phone or watched TV it was as though he was sitting in my lap. Three efforts to ask the mangement to speak to my neighbor went unresponded to. The management of the hotel was terrible. I switched to the Hotel Principal and preferred it. It was clean, in an excellent location, and very quiet at night. The neighborhood looks a tad iffy at night so I am not sure if I was a woman staying there alone if I would stay at the Hotel Principal

The hotel is in a good location which was around a 2 min walk to the rambles, although it is slightly hidden as you get the impression from pictures that it is a big hotel but it is very small in between buildings and takes a bit of finding if making your own way there.
Unfortunetly the room we stayed in was in a very poor condition, the door handle was hanging off, there were cracks in the walls, the balcony door did not open fully and the room was very small (with 2 single beds not a double as expected)
There didn't seem to be any hot water for the shower in the afternoon either only in the morning.
Most rooms also back onto the main road which at times made it noisy overnight also.
